Taxi Driver Training Website - 7th July 2003
We are launching a web site that we have created, it involves training for taxi drivers on disability equality and how best to support disabled people using taxis.
We had a demonstration of low-floor accessible buses provided by Lothian Buses, giving our members and other disabled people the opportunity to try them out and offer comments on them.
We held a workshop day, funded by the City of Edinburgh Council, with taxi drivers and our members shooting some video footage of good practice for taxi drivers assisting disabled people. The video will be incorporated into our taxi training web site, and a shortened version will appear on this site with our full report on the day.
The group has been awarded funding by Consignia in order to develop a training pack for taxi drivers which will be put up on this web site - it'll be up in April 2003.
George Riddell, a member of our group, has featured in a video made by Craigmillar Ability Network to highlight physical access issues in the streets around Craigmillar. We have a photography display highlighting the issues faced by disabled people using buses and taxis that can be borrowed; please contact us.
We held a transport event to raise awareness of the barriers faced by disabled people using public transport; have a look at our report
